According to the online Webster dictionary, capital punishment is defined as “the judicially ordered execution of a prisoner as a punishment for a serious crime, often called a capital offence or a capital crime” (1).

It is a cruel and cold blooded form of punishment and there have been instances where innocent people were sentenced to death and later found to be innocent.

I believe that Capital Punishment should not be brought back, but if it is brought back it should ONLY be used if DNA has been tested and the law is 100% that the accused did commit the crime. It should only be used in cases of serious murder or serial killing; any thing other and the prisoner can spend time in prison wallowing in their guilt.

A psychological argument that may become prominent in the future is the concept of self-control and free will. Do we have free will or not? If not, this could bring into question not just the death penalty but all forms of sentencing whether it is capital punishment or not.

The idea of capital punishment was brought over from Britain, when the founding fathers declared independence. Our ancestors loved the idea of the death penalty, since it was a common part of life. Europeans gave the death penalty for various crimes. The first recorded execution in America occurred in Jamestown, 1608.

Thirty two states have laws on the books legalizing capital punishment. Capital punishment in the 21 century is a subject that should be revisited and revised. Sense it foundation to recent years, much debate has stirred regarding the validity under the law, the effects on our society and the morally of capital punishment.

Capital punishment permanently removes the worst criminals from society and should prove much safer for the rest of us than long term or permanent incarceration. It is self evident that dead criminals cannot commit any further crimes, either within prison or after escaping or after being released from it.

Should Capital Punishment be brought back to the UK? I think Capital Punishment is wrong and should never be brought back here. Capital Punishment is the taking of the life of someone who has been found guilty of committing a crime. It is used in America, Saudi Arabia, Japan and many other countries.

In this essay, I will be arguing for capital punishment to be brought back and in the next section I will explain why using four different reasons. Firstly I think that it is the only punishment for terrorists who kill indiscriminately, for example Timothy McVeigh who bombed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma on April 19th 1995.

First, because capital punishment would act as an economic deterrent against possible criminals as it would make the opportunity cost a lot higher, since without capital punishment they still would be able to live out their lives, and thus would deter people.

Death penalty is a human rights violation. With the death penalty, you are deliberately deciding punishment by death for a criminal. This is the same concept as eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth. It violates human rights by the government forcing the death of a human.
